I was so right - I generally am of course - when I said Shrunken would change again. Mary Piscette added so keys t'other day, and it's now utterly different again. You can't nail the Piscos down.

(Actually, is that how one spells Piscette?)

Loudon. Daft name. But a song by L. Wainwright III has caught my ear. "New Street People", a slightly comic acoustic rant that could have been done my Talking Heads (at least, the switch to the chorus could have been done by them). I shall say no more on that, but did you know that LW III did a song called 'Rufus Is A Tit Man'? How wrong can you be...

Finally, I've managed to get back on this rascally blog thing that we've been doing for... ohhhh... bloomin ages. I'm sure that there were some interesting bits of code and stuff I'm supposed to use, but can I remember all that? Can I bugger? Well, I probably could, but it's not my thing. Humm... I think I've become confused.

So, new release, getting played here and there. Personally, I love them all. Very pleased with Jimmy 2 (or is it Jimmy 1... I'm still confused) - utterly ramshackle and broken, which (honestly) is just how we wanted it to sound. Ranch House is an utter achievement by five people - Tommy making himself late for another appointment by helping us out, Mary both writing and practically rearranging the whole song AFTER it was recorded (and that takes talent), Andy loving being freed from the kit and embracing the song, and Mr. Piper, throwing out all the ways he normally plays, and committing to a bloody hard session in which he excelled. And Me, of course, but then again I am generally brilliant.

And le Shrunk. Odd how this song has gone from one thing to another. I love the recording, and I think we've finally got the structure right, but I am sure it'll keep on changing as we play it live (just how it should be). Lovely.

Anyway, it's Saturday morning, and being up at a reasonable hour I intend to have a constructive day full of bring stuff. Marvelous. Nice to be back. Be more interesting next time, honest.

More news, after Saturday's gig fell through, we are now playing the Grapes on a bill alongside the marvellous La Folie and The Figments. Its £3 on the door, which, I think you'll agree, is a bargain.

Update!

Hello!

Here's all the news that is fit to post:

* We're playing at Club Couture (Frog and Parrot on Division Street, Sheffield) on Sat 13th September with La Folie. It will be excessive and unnecessary.

* We've finished recording and are currently mixing a free 3 track EP entitled 'Despot Holiday'. This should be available soon and will contain these three tunes:

- Jimmy's Imagination : prequel to Jimmy Loxely prior to The Wake. Strange occurences afoot in a cave. He reaches for his pocket and smiles. A backwards haunting.

- Shrunken Head : this has been played live in various forms. This time slinkier. Whatever you do, do not look under the bed. You have been warned.



- At The Ranch House. Atomic age Californian raunch. Sunken lounges. Flat roofs. Hungry Rotarians. A duet feat. Wood and the Booth. Tommy R Jones on drums.

Its a tasty collection and it can be yours for the sum of no money.

* Finally, we've been reviewed in Sandman. A review which somehow manages to praise and slate in equal measure. Here for posterity and weird self flagellation:

Reel Back! At the Sound of Pisco Sour Hour EP
Ireally wanted to like this one. The band was kind enough
to provide a lyrics sheet, and by God they are really quite
brilliant, sounding like they were written by a mad, horny
solicitor or something. They have songs about philandering
men, coating people in pavement, and haranguing
people for insisting on dying, but also manage to provide
some thoughtful reflections on political corruption and
societal downfall. These are often abstract, often mad ramblings
pulled off with a certain amount of panache and
verve. However, the music is a different story, and it really
doesn't help that it sounds like it was recorded in somebody's
overstuffed closet. The band is all over the map,
mimicking Art Brut or the Fall one moment, then settling in
for a bit of lounge lizard croon. It's mostly a hookless affair
without much flow, which I guess will happen when you
have to work in words and lyrics such as 'tarmacadam' and
'Please forgive me this indiscretion. I think you'll agree that
the institution's a sham and not for a man of my former
authority.' It does sound like they're having a hell of a lot of
fun, but it's a shame that this doesn't translate well to
record. In other words, wait for the book of poetry.

Overstuffed closet indeed!

Reel Back!

A news update.

April will busy, well by our terms anyway:

We are playing in Leeds on the 16th April at the Library, with Micky P Kerr, The Lazy Darlings and Phil Brook.

We are then playing the Grapes alongside the excellent Atoness. We will be launching our new CD 'Reel Back! At The Sound Of Pisco Sour Hour', which will have contain the following tracks in an order as yet undecided:
